Free apps
Your documents stay on your device
Two free apps, built with our AWA libraries and our framework. They run entirely in your browser: your files are sent nowhere. Install them as an app: after a first visit, they work offline.
Open AWA Viewer ↗ Open AWA Notepad ↗What they say, and nothing more
A viewer that shows your documents, a notepad that stays a notepad. Our software does what it says and nothing more: simple, safe and respectful of your privacy.
- Nothing leaves the page. Each app's security policy allows connections to its own site only: your browser forbids it to send anything anywhere else. Your files stay on your device.
- No telemetry, no audience tracking, no account. No usage data is collected, and there is nothing to sign up for.
- No hidden feature, no bolted-on AI. They do what this page describes. Their code is public: anyone can check what they do.
- Our servers do not keep our visitors' addresses. This is a permanent check on our production.
AWA Viewer — open and read a document
Open a document and read it in your browser: PDF, Word (DOCX), Excel (XLSX), PowerPoint (PPTX), OpenDocument (ODT, ODS, ODP), Markdown and text.
- Nothing is uploaded. The document is read on your device.
- Installs and works offline. Once installed, the app opens your documents from your system.
- Says what it leaves out. For each document, AWA Viewer lists what the view does not show.
Limits: AWA Viewer displays documents; it does not edit them. Office 97-2003 formats (DOC, XLS, PPT) are recognised, not displayed.
Open AWA Viewer ↗AWA Notepad — write plain text
A plain-text editor in the browser, as simple as a notepad should be.
- Open, save, save as. In browsers that allow it, saving goes back to the opened file; elsewhere, AWA Notepad downloads a copy and tells you so.
- Encodings and line endings: UTF-8, UTF-16 and Windows-1252; CRLF, LF and CR. Detected on open, kept, changeable.
- Find and replace, go to line, word wrap, text size.
- Nothing is uploaded; installs and works offline.
Limits: plain text only. Binary files and files over 16 MiB are refused, not mangled.
Open AWA Notepad ↗Free, source code published
AWA Viewer and AWA Notepad are free to use. Their source code is published under AGPL-3.0-only in our public GitHub repository, github.com/awacloud/awa: apps/services/viewer and apps/services/notepad.
The same building blocks, in your applications
AWA Viewer is built on the PDF, Office, OpenDocument and Markdown libraries that AWA Convert brings together. Your teams can build the same thing into their own applications, without documents leaving your premises.
- Commercial use of AWA Viewer is included in the AWA Convert licence: you build it into your application without the AGPL's source-code obligations.
- AWA Notepad: commercial licence on request, at sales@awacloud.com.
