Your Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OpenDocument documents, generated and read by your code
A JavaScript library that reads and writes the six office formats (DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, ODT, ODS, ODP), without Microsoft Office, without LibreOffice, without a conversion server and with no third-party dependency: in the browser, in a worker or on your server.

Features
- Word (DOCX). Paragraphs, formatting, tables, lists, links, images, charts, shapes, bookmarks, fields, headers and footers, notes, comments, tracked changes.
- Mail merge and document assembly (Word). You design the template in Word; your code fills in the content controls and repeats the repeatable sections from a list of records.
- Excel (XLSX). Workbooks, sheets, cells and references, styles, tables, conditional formatting, comments, drawings.
- PowerPoint (PPTX). Slides, images, charts, preset shapes, themes, animations, transitions.
- OpenDocument (ODT, ODS, ODP). Text, spreadsheet and presentation in the native format, the one the public sector and sovereign cloud require.
- Text extraction. From Word and OpenDocument documents, for indexing, search or AI analysis; the typed content of every format is readable by your code.
Strengths
- Edit without rewriting everything. You open a customer's file, change a cell and send it back: inside the parts the library reads, whatever it does not model is written back as is; the parts it does not read are reported when the file is read.
- No third-party dependency. No external package at runtime: XML, ZIP and compression are developed in-house. Nothing to audit outside the library.
- Defences against booby-trapped files. XML external entities are never resolved, whatever the format. For every format, the decompressed size (256 MiB by default), the number of entries and the compression ratio are capped; for Excel, also the number of sheets, rows and cells. Each refusal is explained by a precise error.
- Modular. The core is light; advanced features are optional modules. You only ship what you use.
- Confidential. Processing can run entirely in the user's browser: the document then stays on their machine. The library sends nothing to us.
Limits
AWA Office serves your code, not your end users: it is neither a visual editor, nor a co-editing tool, nor an on-screen rendering engine.
Licence and pricing
€2,900 excl. VAT per application per year, unlimited developers, servers and users; the documents you produce are yours. Free under AGPL-3.0-only if your application complies with it. Shipping AWA Office to your users' browsers or inside software you distribute? The AGPL then puts source-code obligations on you; the commercial licence exempts you from them.
Does your code also call our PDF or Markdown libraries, or convert your documents? You need the offer that contains them, or AWA Convert (€8,900 excl. VAT), which includes AWA Office, AWA PDF and AWA Markdown for the same application.
